It often can be overwhelming when trying to organize. If you keep in my the 20/80 rule, it will keep everything in perspective. The 20/80 rule, also known as the Pareto principle, states that for many events, roughly 80% of the effects come from 20% of the causes. For example, in business, 20% of workers contribute 80% of the work. Interestingly, the 20/80 rule applies to our personal life as well. In general, you will find that you wear 20% of your clothes, 80% of the time and you use 20% of household goods 80% of the time. This concept will help when trying to donate and/or throw-out rarely used items.

Along with watching the scale comes the accountability of being aware of what enters your mouth. By writing everything you eat down, it is a visual reminder of what your body is in-taking. It reminds me of when I went off to college in Florida and I was constantly reminded of my deep Boston accent at the time. After constant ribbings from friends, I began to hear myself and often catch myself before I would say the word without an "r" sound on the end. Once again, the idea of accountability is not to have one go stir-crazy but rather a gentle reminder of some of the truths that we may not be noticing, intentional or not. Hopefully, you can make the necessary tweeks to your diet to become a little healthier each day.

One of the many things that I want to improve on this next year is my health/weight. Somewhere in the past decade, I let it slip. Year after year, the pounds crept on and the excuses increased. I have decided to be more steadfast on monitoring the scale, not to freak out, but to use the scale as a tool. In every facet of life, whether it be cooking, woodworking, or teaching, tools are used to improve the user's abilities to accomplish their goal. I see the scale exactly as that. When I stepped on the scale, I weighed a dismal 162 lbs. Way too much for a 5' 4.5'' height. Even though I know I need to lose 40 lbs to be at a comfortable weight, I have decided to take it little by little. Weighing myself on a regular basis is the first baby step.

Trying to come up with a name for this new blog, I tried to plan ahead and think creatively of my audience and what I wanted to write about. Yet as I tried at least 10+ names and various versions of them, I learned that each and every one had been already snatched up. Becoming frustrated by my unlucky pickings but not enough to let go of my inner flame, I started entering whatever popped into my head, of course, while being interrupted every 2 minutes by my 7 year old. And wa-lah, in the chaos of the moment, I found a winner which totally described one of my biggest goals. Synonyms of motivate include: inspire, stimulate, encourage, and inspirit. Hopefully with this blog, I can do this very thing for myself and others in crafts, health, family life, faith, humor and random miscellaneous moments of life.
